"Interviewing Customers No. 2" Week 5

1)      Fine tune your opportunity.
I believe that paying for 300 channels on cable is dumb! You may only watch 2 to 3 channels at most. If people were able to buy just the channels they watch or the series of a show they watch, it would make more sense. I would charge $12.99 per series and $15.99 per station.
2)      Fine tune the "who."
a.       The people I wanted to talk to were working Americans between 24 and 35 because these people mostly like have jobs and live on their own therefore the cost of cable directly affects them.
3)      Tweaking your interview questions.
a.       Do you work
b.      What do you do when you get off of work
c.       How much television do you watch
d.      How many channels on cable do you have
e.      How much is your cable bill
f.        For the channels/ time you watch television, do you think that your monthly cable bill is worth it?
g.       If you could pay to watch just a channel or a show series at the time that it airs for 12.99 would you do it?
4)      Go talk to customers!
a.       I talked to 5 working Americans ages 21 to 35 who either had cable or didn’t
5)      Tell us what you learned about the opportunity
a.       I learned that NO ONE is happy with the price of cable and that everybody said they would do it
6)      Tell us what you learned about interviewing customers.

a.       You have to always be ready for the answer to not be what you expected it to be. If you try to just go by a script it won’t seem natural

  1. Hey Bridgett,

Great job on this! First of all, I think its great that you chose an idea thats very scale-able. A subscription service will always bring in revenue. Second, you chose a perfect client base as they are directly interested in this product so you can capitalize on improvement / development opportunity of their strongest points. Which brings me to next point -- great questions asked, as they will only further progress your idea and give you data points to take back.

Good luck and thanks for the share!

  3. Hey Bridgett!

I really enjoyed your interviews; I appreciated how natural your questions were, as well as the descriptions of people’s days. It was exactly like having a casual conversation with a friend, there wasn’t an obvious script. I can really relate to potential costumers, cable bills are crazy expensive for channels that no one tunes to; I would certainly be a costumer. Your idea was very interesting and something I wish becomes a reality in the future. Feel free to check out my blog at http://ent1646.blogspot.com/2016/02/interviewing-customers-no-2.html

  4. I want to comment on your demographic! It was very smart that you chose people whose ages normally range above those of students. I know many older people like to watch television at night after coming home from work, but I would feel like students would not have as much time to do this! Your idea is also great and it is true! I have never found myself watching more than 2 or 3 channels! Good luck!

  5. Great choice of demographic, I really lie your idea, it's bery similar to hulu though. You did a great job with the questions and the interviews. Here is the link to my blog if you want to check it out,http://dleonent.blogspot.com/
My idea revolves more around improving the bus system locally. (Just a random side note I love the background of your blog!)
